Deep in the Heart of Texas: Our Journey

In 1983 Walt Meador Jr. began Lone Star Lasers in a small warehouse in Houston, Texas. He quickly made a name for himself producing laser shows for the biggest names in the business touring the world with artists like Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson and Blake Shelton. He also produced some of the largest shows in the world like the opening of the 1984 Olympics in Seoul, the 1999 Millennial New Year’s Eve Celebration in Philadelphia and the Power of Houston (at the time, the largest laser and pyro show in U.S. history). Along with world tours and grand laser events, Walt and his team were known as the go-to-guys for rodeos throughout the United States. Lone Star Lasers traveled with cowboys from Houston and San Antonio to Kansas City and Omaha. As the business grew, Walt saw another opportunity for expansion by integrating lasers into smaller venues by producing shows for large corporate events partnering with brands like Coca-Cola, Budweiser, HP, John Deer, FedEx, AutoZone and IBM.

Walt’s dedication to his fellow laser buddies pushed him to become very involved with the safety and mentoring of laser enthusiasts in the industry. This lead to him being a founding member of the International Laser Display Association, ILDA. His large allotment of lasers for shows allowed him to start a new business, Laser Rentals LLC., and the name Lone Star Lasers was put on the shelf. His business moved to his hometown of Joplin, MO and his life-long friend and partner, John Coodey became an integral part in what Walt was building. John’s attention to detail and laser knowledge helped put Laser Rentals on the map. John has toured on shows, produced countless performances and even repairs lasers to this day. Laser Rentals connected Walt with shows and producers from around the world and eventually introducing himself into the business of laser sales with LightSpace Lasers. LightSpace Lasers and Laser Rentals became a strong partnership creating and innovating lasers for display throughout the world. LightSpace lasers have been seen on the GRAMMY Awards, The Voice, The Masked Singer, American Idol, America's Got Talent, BET Awards, Billboard Awards, American Music Awards, MTV VMA's, National Finals Rodeo, PBR World Finals, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Jabbawockeez Timeless Las Vegas and Macau, China and J-LO Las Vegas Residency.

In 2023, Walt was diagnosed with terminal cancer. His diagnosis was shortened from months to weeks, but during this time he mentored his final student, his daughter, Stephanie Huston. After his death in October 2023, Stephanie began running the business her father built by bringing it into the new age of lasers. Her first order of business was to take Lone Star Lasers off the shelf and dust it off to ride again. In his honor, she filed the new business name as WAM (Walter Austin Meador) Lone Star Lasers. Lone Star Lasers continues to generate cutting-edge shows, premier laser rental service and LightSpace USA laser sales. But, Stephanie’s first order of business was to talk to her father’s friends and co-workers about what they think could be better in the laser industry. Some of these suggestions like financing for new lasers, opening multiple laser repair facilities and extended laser rentals have already been placed into action. More innovations are in the works and our team is growing. John Coodey remains an integral part of the team and J.P. Langston, with a background in video, lasers and lighting on tours, has joined the team to be an added expert for the company. Lone Star Lasers is now based in Dallas, TX and remains committed to providing the best customer service in the laser show industry as a trusted partner in sales, rentals and shows.
